On Friday 26 September 2025 at 7pm, Cadogan Hall hosts the opening night of the very first Polish Jazz Festival in London. The evening features two separate performances: Anna Maria Jopek with her quintet, followed by a solo performance by Leszek Możdżer, one of Poland’s most celebrated jazz pianists.

PRZESTWORZA

„Przestworza” (ang. The Expanses) – this title came to mind almost instantly, because in my imagination, I saw the very space I’ve been searching for. But before that, the most important element came first – People – the dream ensemble. We managed to invite artists whose playing and musical ethos embody everything I believe in and constantly long for. I await what kind of equation the music will write for this unique human and artistic configuration. And I know – my intuition tells me, as strongly as my need for freedom – that this will be unlike anything that has ever happened before.

We will hear an original blend of repertoire, style, and sensitivity – music that defies easy classification. As a starting point, Jopek chose themes that seem to cancel each other out: contemporary pop songs, seventeenth-century sacred motifs, ancient folk tunes, and her own new compositions. The entire programme was adapted, recomposed, and arranged by Piotr Wojtasik. The music of Przestworza, rich and expansive, leaves a wide open space for vibrant, unrestricted jazz improvisation.

Przestworza

The concert “Przestworza” [The Expanses] will take place on February 12, 2024 at the Roma Theater in Warsaw as part of a charity event supporting the Children’s Memorial Health Institute. AMJ and Piotr Wojtasik, the project’s musical director and orchestrator, will be accompanied on stage by Dominik Wania, Maciej Sikała, Atom String Quartet, Robert Kubiszyn, Paweł Dobrowolski and Piotr Nazaruk.
